Moonj Craft is the 'One District One Product' (ODOP) of Prayagraj. It involves weaving baskets, coasters, bags, and decorative items using the outer layer of the 'Moonj' grass (Saccharum munja) which grows abundantly along the banks of the Sangam.
The grass is harvested in winter, dried, and dyed in vibrant colors (pinks, greens, purples). The inner stalk (Sarkanda) is used as the core, and the Moonj is coiled around it. This technique is entirely manual and eco-friendly.
The craft is centered in the Naini and Mahewa areas. These products are lightweight, durable, and washable, making them perfect sustainable souvenirs.
