
Gaya has a small but vibrant tradition of wood carving. The artisans create brightly colored, lacquered wooden toys and boxes (Sindur-dan). The wood is turned on a lathe and then coated with natural lac colors.
These items are sold near the Vishnupad temple and are popular gifts for children and pilgrims.
