About 30 km from Gaya lies the village of Pattharkatti. As the name suggests, the entire village is involved in stone cutting. This tradition dates back to the Buddhist era when artisans carved the great stupas and railings.
Today, they work primarily with black stone (Kasauti) and soft stone. They craft intricate statues of Lord Buddha, Ganesh, and Shiva, as well as household items like mortar and pestles. The sound of chisels striking stone echoes through the village.
