Baati Chokha is the staple food of the common man in this region. The Baati is a hard, unleavened wheat ball baked over cow dung cakes or charcoal. It is then cracked open and dipped in ghee.
The Chokha is a spicy mash of roasted brinjal (eggplant), potatoes, and tomatoes, flavored with raw mustard oil, garlic, and chilies. It is smoky, spicy, and filling. It represents the simple, unpretentious lifestyle of Ayodhya.
