Naya Ghat is essentially the main riverside hub of Ayodhya. Historically known as the place where the ferrymen docked, it is now a sprawling expanse of concrete steps and parks. It is usually the first point of contact with the holy river for visitors arriving from the highway.
The area is anchored by a beautiful statue of Lord Rama and serves as the docking point for most tourist boats. From here, you can hire private boats to take you across the river or towards the cremation ghats. The view of the massive railway bridge spanning the Saryu from here is striking.
Adjacent to Naya Ghat is the sprawling Ram Katha Park, an open-air venue where cultural programs and religious discourses are held regularly. The ghat is lined with priests sitting under umbrellas, ready to help devotees perform 'Sankalp' (vows) and rituals.
The evening Saryu Aarti is performed near here (at the adjacent Saryu Ghat), making Naya Ghat a hive of activity at dusk. The aroma of street food, the sound of temple bells, and the rush of pilgrims create a vibrant atmosphere.
It is also a great place to spot freshwater dolphins in the Saryu if you take a boat ride further downstream during the right season.
