Swarg Dwar means 'Gateway to Heaven.' According to the Puranas, when Lord Rama decided to leave the earth, he did not go alone. All the subjects of Ayodhya, including the insects and animals who were devoted to him, accompanied him to the Saryu and attained salvation (Moksha) at this very spot.
Because of this legend, it is believed that those who die here or are cremated near here attain instant liberation. The strip of the riverbank from Nageshwarnath to the cremation grounds is often referred to as Swarg Dwar.
